About
I like to work from real life but always add some new element, enjoying adding things that don't quite fit. I love to travel to make sketches in situ, hence the name Escapades.
I moved to Ireland six years ago and have since then exhibited works here.
The focus of my work has changed substantially with an emphasis now on world events and the introduction of figures in the work.
I'm pleased to see that my experience here in Ireland has totally changed what I'm inspired to paint and I'm even experimenting with portraits.
My favourite subjects are fishing boats, lighthouses - man made objects not just nature alone.
Inspired by French expressionist painter Soutine, I feel that the materials that I use in creating my works are less important than the creation of the effect I am searching for. I explore different techniques : oil, acrylic, collage ,charcoal and pastel guided by spontaneity, play, imagination and emotion.
During nearly twenty years in Pontivy a Napoleonic town in the middle of Brittany I made a series of works called "Pontivy sans fin" inspired by a book by Giacometti called " Paris sans fin" This led to an exhibition in autumn 2018.
I have exhibited over a period of 30 years in London and in France. Works have been bought by buyers in England, America, Australia, France and Ireland.
